I wanted to do some test footage with my new equipment, and Derek had to walk his dog Bailey, so we combined the two! There was absolutely no intention to film footage to edit, but I ended up with 10 minutes worth of our outing, and since there were some pretty cool shots done with the steadycam, I decided I wanted to put it together in some way. Having seen the Watchmen trailer a dozen times and getting that Smashing Pumpkins song stuck in my head, it's what I first imagined playing along to everything in slow-motion. Then I went the extra step and decided to edit the song exactly the same way it was edited in the trailer. Then I went even further and tried to find shots that kind of resembled (even in the most miniscule way) the shots from the Watchmen trailer. Then I went too far and tried to time all the shots exactly the same way and just turn the whole thing into a Watchmen trailer rip-off, complete with text, logos, and voice-overs. I think I did way more work than I should have for what's basically "throw away" footage, but at least I didn't go off the edge and actually purchase stock footage to use for the text screens.
I put up a comparison with the Watchmen trailer so you can see how they match. The timing goes off for half a second here and there, and then at the end it gets kind of weird, but for the most part the trailers match each other enough for you to think "Hey, that's actually kind of neat."
