Comments from Derek:

Honbon was an idea I came up with many months ago. It was originally going to star Jude! But the idea kind of fell apart and I didn't do anything with it. Boredom is a powerful force, however... reading week (spring break) was full of nothingness. So one day I said to Phil, "Want to do another podcast even though we have nothing to talk about?" He said "Sure." Then for some reason I said "Want to film somehting inSTEAD?' and he passed out. I was concerned but I couldn't worry about it too much once I was zapped to the past with Michael J. Fox and Conan O'Brien. Because filming this was so spontaneous, and came up primarily as a time killer, I didn't want to bother Jude since he lives far away and works a lot. Phil eneded up doing a great job in the role though, so he should be commended!

Anyway, this was filmed with almost zero prep. I had the basic plot in my head, but no script, no idea of where the shots would be happening and so forth; in a sense a lot of the movie was made on the spot as we went along. Naturally some of what came out of the day didn't quite work according to plan our daughter will wed according to plan our family led, but especially for such a speedy project, I'm happy with the end result. At one point Honbon's crotch started leaking stuffing though. I'm not making that up. I had to scotch tape it.

I think my favourite part is when Phil yells "No Hondor! Stop!" Earlier he had called Honbon Hondor by mistake and it was funny, so we worked it in. More fun facts? The "basketball" that they play with is a broken lamp. Another? During the flashback sequence Phil and Honbon are planning to eat soup cans. One more I can think of is that I made a typo in the credits. It says "Honbon as Honbon" when it should be "Phil as Honbon." Whoa ho!
