Breakfast

Poochie is an aspiring dancer who does not yet see the importance of eating breakfast, and consistently rejects his father's pleas to eat everything on his plate. His body eventually breaks down to the point of not even being able to withstand the slightest nudge. Choose your own adventure and help Poochie find his way to a balanced breakfast!

We filmed this back in August 2010 and released it in May 2011! Like any good cooking, it needs time to just sit and become awesome on its own.

Derek's Comments:
I don't belong behind a camera. Or in front. Maybe underneath the tripod, like some kind of roadkill. But! You know what? It's fun to direct. Well, not the first time we tried to film this. I tried to do too much and I quit after a handful of shots.

But in true Can style, projects that seem dead are sometimes only horribly wounded and disfigured. I picked up Breakfast again with a simple goal for the shoot: it would be easy, fun, and quick, and I would deal with the ramifications of that mindset later. The first part of that plan worked out. The second, not so much. Editing something cohesive out of the pile of poorly-planned shots was beyond my abilities, let alone with some annoying technical troubles.

Thankfully, Phil was around to save the day! He added his own touches and came through in taming this hideous beast. And y'know, It's fitting that he used Back To The Future text. This feels like a throwback to our old style: haphazard, but fun to watch almost because of that fact.

Speaking of Phils, the subdued, stone-faced Papa Chen was a fun turn from the silly and wacky characters he's played in the past. And Chris' understudy Jerome stepped up to the plate to take on Poochie -- he was very game, and brought an awesome insanity to the role. I kinda wish I took more care in capturing their performances.

Anyway, it took way too long to get here, but at least the journey's done. That's a wrapper!

(P.S. About "Derriko Suave" -- I briefly considered omitting my last name from stuff. I decided against it, but failed to inform Phil in time, and I guess he jazzed up my credit kind of like I often do for his. Didn't mean to disown the baby.)
