GunDAMN!

I never thought that my life as an anime fan could get any worse with the people who don't understand what anime is. In this case it's with my own mother; the one person who used to just accept my hobby and defend me when my sister complained about it. A lot of people make fun of anime or hate it because it's "a cartoon." Or for soccer moms because it's too violent or has nudity. But this time it's totally different. Ever had someone tell you something was bad because of the way its title sounded? Well, ever since I started building Gundam models my parents have been bitching about the word Gundam. "Gundam? That's bad. Isn't damn a swear word?" No mother. Damn isn't even part of the title. It's not even pronounced that way. (She pronounces it Gun-damn, in case you didn't catch on yet.) Geez, I hope it's not like that every freakin' time I buy a model. I mean, I bought a Gundam DVD before and never got any complaints. Why now?

Now, if they'd only watch some Gundam they'd notice that it has nothing to do with being damned. Heck, damn isn't even said as much as you would like it to. Time after time I have to explain that it's pronounced Gun-dum, or something similar to that. Whatever. Sure, in the Japanese version they're desperately trying to say Gun-dam, but it comes out as Gun-dum due to the way they speak, so the English version used that pronunciation. There is no freakin' damn!

The moral "don't judge a book by its cover" can be applied to this predicament. Actually, in a way it can be applied to most anime. Watch the freakin' show instead of judging it by its freakin' title! Finally, I got to rant about this. And I'm Gun-Damn proud of it! Peace out...!
